Introducing Ewood | Interview

I’M OFFICIALLY MISSING YOU – Officially missing you

Ewood is a London Based singer-songwriter drawing inspiration from iconic artists such as Michael Jackson and Bruno Mars, his music can be described as both organic and authentic and has cultivated a loyal fanbase over the years. I discovered Ewoods music a few months ago when I saw him take the stage at The Bedroom Bar in London. Absolutely loved his Human Nature Cover! His passion for music and dancing is evident in his live performances and his songs tell stories of real life issues which most people can relate to. (Watch the “London Through The Eyes Of Ewood”  Documentary for more). He’s humble and hardworking and I personally feel like those two attributes in an artist are what makes them great. Within the last few months Ewood has taken his music on tour and travelled around Europe and the U.K at sold out Venues. I had the absolute pleasure of interviewing Ewood, Check out the full interview below.

HH: Tell us a little bit about your back story and how you got started in music?

EW: I remember being very young and watching Michael Jackson on TV, it was during the Bad Tour and I was like “Mum this is what I want to do”. I started music at the age of 8 years old, then studied music, drama and how to put a show together from the lights to the sound at the conservatory. I studied different styles of dance at a dancing school in Paris and London and I never stopped since. I’ve been on The Voice in France and I was the opening act of a very Popular French singer Axel Tony. I just finished my first tour “ The Truth Or Dare Experience” where I presented songs of my future album “Truth Or Dare”.

HH: Who are your music inspirations? Do you have a favourite artist of all time?

EW: Bruno Mars, Miguel, Sade, Seal, Jazmine Sullivan, Musiq Soulchild, Janet Jackson, Sammy Davis Jr, James Brown, Marvin Gaye, Adele, Stevie Wonder, Bon Jovi, Aeromsmith, Craig David, Jamiroquai, George Michael, Michael Bublé, Tamia, Mary J Blige, Brandy, Maroon 5, R.E.M, No doubt, P!nk, Phil Collins, Mariah Carey, Usher and Rihanna, etc. My favourite artist of all time is Michael Jackson. An Interview With Marga Lane | Artist Spotlight

“SAFE TO SAY I’M ALL YOURS” – Thinking about you

Thinking about you’ is the breathtakingly stunning single from LA based Soulful-Pop Singer Songwriter and Multi-instrumentalist Marga Lane. Lane has performed at some incredibly notable venues across the US and recently caught the attention of Lance Bass who featured her on his Dirty Pop show on SiriusXM. Being a fellow N’sync fangirl I squealed with excitement when I heard. (🙌🏽 Paws up if N’ Sync was your life back in the day!) It’s definitely one to see and you can watch it by clicking the link here.

A rhythmic beauty; ‘Thinking about you’ is the opening track to Marga Lane’s forthcoming album ‘Undressed’. I don’t use this word lightly but believe me when I say that this upbeat yet seamlessly chilled acoustic song is pure ‘Perfection’. It’s the perfect blend of layered harmonies, a catchy melody, ad libs and silk like vocals. It’s the kind of song that will put a pep in your step and one you’ll want to have looped on repeat all day long. Easy listening Gold for sure. ‘Forgiven’ is the follow-up single to Thinking about you and Marga’s ability to tug at your heart-strings in the most sincere and mesmerising way doesn’t falter. Her artistry is second to none. With a distinctive voice and always authentic at the heart, her light radiates through her heartfelt, honest and relatable lyrics. Singing songs about love and loss in a very raw and real way makes Lane’s music easy to identify with, with each song acting as a reassuring reminder that there is someone out there that knows what you’re going through or has been there before. I had the absolute pleasure of interviewing Marga Lane. I double dare you not to fall in love with her and her music by the end of this article. Marga Lane is truly an amazing artist.

HH: Tell us a little bit about yourself – What’s your background and how did you get started in music?

ML: I started playing piano at 6 and from there I fell in love with music and performing. A few years after piano, I started taking voice lessons and going to musical theater summer camps. Honestly, I have my parents to thank for putting me in all of these activities. My mom played the piano so I think it was only natural for her to get me started at such a young age. I also played the flute in band for 8 years and picked up playing guitar and drums in high school. It’s strange because I don’t really remember being drawn to anything else as a kid. I used to figure skate, but other than that music and dance were 24/7 for me. Continue reading “An Interview With Marga Lane | Artist Spotlight”

Artist Spotlight: Midas | ‘Stronger’ EP Launch Party + Interview

One of the perks about writing this blog is that I’m exposed to an abundance of different genres and New Music, which is awesome for me as I appreciate all kinds of music and between you and me, it’s one of my favourite things to write about. It also means that I get to share, recommend and hopefully introduce you to music that you may not have stumbled across yet. This category ‘Artist Spotlight’ gives me a platform to do exactly that. So if like me you appreciate raw talent, impeccable songwriting and discovering music that resonates with you, then keep on reading!

“Mi’das a.k.a Mike Davies creates soulful pop music infused with his trademark vocal and guitar playing. His sound has been described as “timeless, but discernably of its time”

Brighton based singer/songwriter Mi’das has a gift for mixing meaningful lyrics with soul, pop and just the right amount of grit  which makes his music and sound distinct. I sense  a slight bluesy and funk vibe too. It makes perfect sense that Mi’das has released a series of three EPs, each with their own theme and collectively they tell the ‘Story So Far’.Genius!

Last Friday saw the EP Launch Party of the final installment from the ‘Story So Far’ series; Stronger’ and I was there to support and celebrate this standout EP. The set list included songs from all 3 EPS and a few covers which I loved. Hearing Mi’das cover ‘Jealous Guy’ has quickly replaced Gavin Degraws version as my fave take on the classic. Also I’ll shamelessly say that hearing ‘I’ll catch you’ live almost made me cry. It’s a beautiful stripped back ballad and the silence in the room spoke volumes. I’m not one to use oxymorons often so that’s saying something. Nothing beats live music and one thing I couldn’t help but notice was how talented everyone on that stage was. Seeing musicians vibe together its…special. Great vibes all around which is always nice and I hate to “pull a Darius” on you guys but I have to say there was a lot of love in the room!Ha! In a nutshell the night was fantastic, sincere, raw and intimate.

Leading up to the launch I interviewed Mi’das and here it is!
